  • Résumé :

Who is Guinevere ? Any fan of films, comics, children's literature or, more modestly, anyone who has only vaguely heard of the Middle Ages, can answer that question. Guinevere was a very beautiful woman who was King Arthur's wife and the lover of the no less famous Lancelot of the Lake – the most celebrated knight of the Round Table.
True perhaps, but what else do we know about her ? This prestigious, yet somewhat nefarious, queen is still unknown for the most part, having been eclipsed by Isolde, Morgan and Melusine. There have been countless studies, essays and stories written about the three latter women. Yet, by comparison, very little has been written about poor Guinevere. Dietmar Rieger, an internationally renowned expert on medieval literature, decided to make up for that oversight, and, after conducting extremely thorough research, offers readers a portrait of the Queen of Logres that is as detailed as it is lifelike.

Dietmar Rieger, a Professor of Roman Literature at University of Giessen (Germany), is a specialist in French, Occitan and Italian literatures. He has published numerous works and articles on the literature of the Middle Ages.
