  • Résumé : Spinoza, an atheist of doctrine and a righteous atheist - one might add, has disappeared under Spinozism, which itself has been reduced to a form of atheism. The author, André Pessel, wanted to ask about this resistance to Ethics and to restore Spinoza in the Spinozism. This required to be inside Spinoza's Ethics, inside a book that, because written more geometrico, hides quite an innovative movement.
Resistance that Spinoza's opponents have opposed to the text itself shows that the philosopher established a new and unprecedented way to fathom the place of the readers. When reading Ethics, one understands what it means for the subject to be "an effect" of the text: readers are built by their reading experience, which creates a truely new theory of the subject. One had to start from the objections to Spinoza to measure, against the renown of the Cartesian cogito and its methods, what the subjugation of the "ego" to an order which is the effect of it, and not its beginning, actually is. "Order" can be understood in two different ways. Order of the immanent infinity, into which the subject's power is integrated ; yet when claiming that it can be attributed to Spinozism, Spinoza's opponents favoured a theory of the substance over that of the power. Order of a book which uses geometry as a rhetoric and proceeds by going back and forth. Being inside the Ethics to read it implies that readers are defined by this constant back and forth. The order of reading is infinite and stands as the symbol of the immanent infinity of which it is the effect.
