- Résumé : "Amelia" by Henry Fielding is a classic novel that follows the trials and triumphs of its eponymous heroine, Amelia. Set in 18th-century England, Fielding's novel offers a panoramic view of society, exploring themes of love, marriage, virtue, and vice. As Amelia navigates the complexities of her tumultuous life, she encounters a cast of colorful characters, from rakish gentlemen to virtuous heroines. Through vivid language and keen insight, Fielding exposes the follies and foibles of human nature, offering readers a window into the moral and social landscape of his time. With its blend of humor, satire, and romance, "Amelia" remains a timeless masterpiece that continues to captivate readers with its wit, wisdom, and enduring relevance. Fielding's richly drawn characters and engaging narrative ensure that "Amelia" remains a beloved classic of English literature, cherished by readers for generations to come.
- Biographie : Henry Fielding (22 April 1707 - 8 Octr 1754) was an English novelist, irony writer, and dramatist known for earthy humour and satire. His comic novel Tom Jones is still widely appreciated. He and Samuel Richardson are seen as founders of the traditional English novel. He also holds a place in the history of law enforcement, having used his authority as a magistrate to found the Bow Street Runners, London's first intermittently funded, full-time police force.
