Biographie : Elie Faure (1873-1937) a commencé par des études de médecine, mais dès sa jeunesse il a assidûment fréquenté les musées et s'est lié à des artistes comme Rodin, Bourdelle, Renoir, Monet. Son Histoire de l'art remporta un vif succès de même que L'esprit des formes. Il est l'auteur d'une oeuvre considérable, notamment de récits de voyages. De lui les éditions Bartillat ont publié La Sainte Face, son témoignage de soldat pendant la première guerre mondiale et Méditations catastrophiques.
