- Résumé : The Graded Chinese Reader series is a collection of abridged reading materials designed for Chinese learners, aiming to help them improve their reading ability. Since the publication of the first volume of the English annotated edition in 2007, this series has been well-received by readers. It can be used as a Chinese reading textbook or as extensive reading materials by Chinese learners. To meet the needs of readers, a total of six volumes have been published. To assist French-speaking learners of Chinese, three French-annotated volumes will be published with vocabulary levels of 1000, 2000, and 3000 words respectively. The vocabulary level of Volume One is confined to 1000 words. The articles are selected from contemporary Chinese short stories, including《夜之随想曲》《谁生活得更美好》《陈奂生上城》《雪窗帘》《城乡简史》 and 《故乡的雨》. These stories depict the lives of the Chinese people and various social changes from the 1980s to the present. This volume is restricted to a vocabulary of 1000 commonly used Chinese words. The vocabulary selection is primarily based on the first 1000 of the 1500 most frequently used words from the International Curriculum for Chinese Language Education (2008). It also refers to the 1200 words specified in the Chinese Proficiency Test Syllabus Level 4. This vocabulary level is equivalent to mastering 1272 words stipulated in Elementary Level 2 of the Chinese Proficiency Grading Standards for International Chinese Language Education.
